Snake Escapes Zoo, Twitter on High Alert

In case you’ve somehow missed this.  On March 27, 2011 an Egyptian Cobra escaped from the Bronx Zoo.   No, he still hasn’t been found.

But never fear, Twitter users are on high alert!  By the 28th, the snake had one of the funniest satire accounts  in twitter’s 5 year history.

The @BronxZoosCobra‘s first tweet read:

I want to thank those animals from the movie "Madagascar." They were a real inspiration.

On an even slimier note, the snake took a tour of Wall Street.

Leaving Wall Street. These guys make my skin crawl. #snakeonthetown

By the next day, the snake had shout outs from some pretty popular twitter users.  Including Ellen and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

Hey @BronxZoosCobra you should check out the Guggenheim Museum. They have a great Kandinsky exhibit. They also don’t have any stairs.

Ellen DeGeneres

Today President Obama and I toured NYC’s Museum of Natural History. We saw a 94 foot whale, but not @BronxZoosCobra

Though this sounds like a ssscary (sorry I had to do it) situation.  The zoo thinks that the snake is still in the reptile house and poses no threat to the people of New York.

More than just a few users have taken a liking to the cobra.  The snake has almost as many followers as Grammy Award Winning singer Christina Aguilera.
