Derrek Lutz is a New Jersey teen, much like any other… except he is a cross dresser. As an aspiring fashion designer, Lutz wanted to wear a dress to his high school prom. School officials quickly told him that he would not be allowed to show up in a dress.
There was backlash from the students and they even set up a facebook group called “Let Derrek Lutz Wear A Dress To Prom”
The school’s legal team got involved and they changed their decision, allowing Lutz to wear whatever he wanted. The prom took place this past weekend and Derrek was allowed into the prom wearing his dress. He commented on the facebook group’s wall that there were no issues at all and that he had a great time… and he also won prom king! Congrats Derrek!
Lutz gave an interview to CBS3 to talk about the debate his situation stirred up:
