Is Lady Gaga Pushing ‘Twisted, Sexual Fantasies to Children’?

It must be a slow news day for Fox News. Today they ran a story about how Lady Gaga is basically a large culprit of all that is wrong with America. They actually say the Telephone video is pushing ‘twisted sexual fantasies to children’.

Sandy Rios, President of the Culture Campaign sat down with Fox News to share her ‘insight’

I think Sandy manages to jump in front of the bus on her own, however, there are a few points I do have to debunk here.

First and foremost, both iTunes and internet browsers have parental controls. The Telephone video is marked as explicit on both iTunes and on Lady Gaga’s official website.

Lady Gaga is protected under the first amendment for freedom of speech. Those who don’t like it should learn to use some of the aforementioned parental controls and tune out.

Second, Lady gaga is not responsible for America’s children. Their parents are responsible. Somewhere along the line, Americans have lost all sense of responsibility when it comes to their children. It is no longer a parent’s job, but the job of society to rear them.

Third, what the hell is this woman actually complaining about? She does an awful lot of transphobic spewing, but has she made it past the first 30 seconds of the video?

The ‘Lady Gaga is a Hermaphrodite’ rumor spread the internet very quickly last year. Gaga herself has came out against that rumor. Not only in the Telephone video, but on the cover of the UK magazine Q.

And even if Gaga WAS a transgendered American… is that a bad thing? Gaga has done nothing to these people. She has done nothing but defend her fans’ right to be themselves. Take a look at this video from the National Equality March this past summer.

Does this sound like someone that wants to corrupt your children? C’mon Sandy, look at Tiger Woods or John Edwards if you want to talk about teaching ‘twisted, sexual fantasies to children’.

It’s not just Americans, Australia is also talking about the fitness for children. There seems to be a lot of cross marketing with Lady Gaga and these companies are trying to make a buck. But, she’s not far from what Peaches does, only Peaches’s videos aren’t shown on Nickelodeon….see the point? I believe in an artist’s creative license but where movies need classification, music videos like LG’s should have that too. It’s only fair because then parents can make informed decisions about what their kids can watch. No, LG did not create the world we live in but surely she is exploiting it for her own benefit = attention and money (even so she does throw in the art/gay card). We all have to be held accountable for our actions, and LG is old enough to hold her own. She is NOT a role model and clearly doesn’t take it seriously. IF she did, she wouldn’t be throwing imagery around for pure entertainment purpose. Everything I’m saying does not take away from her accomplishments. Surely she is clever, but she needs to get her markets defined, otherwise, then yes, she will get judged as selling twisted sexual fantasies to children, because even though that may/may not be her intention, that’s kind of what has happened. It’s not very responsible (which I GET it’s not her responsibility) but whose responsibility IS it? The ones who are benefiting should take the responsibility. It is NOT the parents. It is the record companies and LG. And they won’t stop until their cash cow isn’t raking in the cash anymore. A kid is happy with clowns and a boy/girl holding hands. WHY would they need to be entertained this way? It is kind of…perverted to show this to children in my opinion. I also think that she could represent the gay community so much more beautifully. She is exploiting stereotypes in this video- Nothing an ignorant hetero doesn’t already think about the gay community. I’m so shocked. Now lets actually move on.

Lady Gaga’s music is not for kids. I agree with that statement. But how can you say that she is not a role model? She speaks up for what she believes in… and that happens to be gay rights.
