I just watched a film called The End of America. It is based on the best selling novel by Naomi Wolf. In this movie she outlines the 10 steps to the End Of America as we know it. Take a look at the film’s official trailer.
This film was kind of scary to me. I watched and drew some eerie similarities between the America we know today and Nazi Germany in the 1930′s.
Let’s look at what Naomi says is the first step towards the end of America.
#1 Invoke an internal and external threat.
In 1933 the German the national socialists came to power from the Reichstadt scandal. Many historians believe that this was a staged attack. In response to that attack, Germany passed laws, similar to America’s patriot act, that were used to take away many freedoms thereby subverting the constitution. This ‘law’ called anyone who spoke out against it ‘unpatriotic’.
This was all before Adolf Hitler was named Times “Man of the Year” in 1938.
Does this sound familiar to an attack here at home? 9/11 was used to create a “war on terror”. Other countries went after known terrorists while protecting innocent citizens. This means careful planning. Our administration put into law October 26, 2001. Just over a month after the attack. The Patriot Act is actually an acronym for:
The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required To Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 = T USA PATRIOT
This law gives our government the right to read our mail, email, phone records, medical records, financial records utilize electronic surveillance and even look at what books you have recently checked out from the library.
Sounds like our Government has step #1 covered pretty well. This all leads up to step number 2.
#2 Secret Prisons where Torture Takes Place
In November of 2001 A military order was issued that gave the president the sole determining vote of who is an accused terrorist. It gave him this power worldwide.
Just 2 months prior our nation had experienced the worst imaginable terrorist attack, so I can understand why some to this day accept this as protecting their liberties. But let’s take a look back to Germany after their version of the Patriot Act had been passed.
Around this time Hitler’s “People’s Court” was very popular. It was established in 1934 and ran outside the statute of constitutional law. One notable factor from this time was that prisoners were tried and not allowed to see or hear any of the evidence provided against them. This basically paved the way for them to find practically anything wrong with anyone and prosecute them for it.
Now I know that I said The United States Patriot Act only applied to Foreign citizens suspected of being terrorists, but on October 17 2006, Our Commander in Chief expanded that law to include any United States Citizen, for any reason. Do you see any correlations here?
Because of this change in law, I for example could be deemed an “Enemy Combatant” simply by posting this blog. I would have no right to a lawyer. Shit, they wouldn’t even have to let me see any of the evidence used against me. Does that sound right?
#3 Develop A Paramilitary Force
Blackwater is one of the first things that comes to mind. If you are unsure what Blackwater is, they are a contracted group that was given power to go into Iraq and use deadly force. No questions asked. These were not trained soldiers, they were merely privileged killers who received a $21 Million ($320 Million to date) contract to go into Iraq and do whatever they pleased.
It has also been reported that under a contract from the Department of Homeland Security that Blackwater contractors were present in New Orleans following the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Many accounts tell of these contractors shooting at innocent citizens without provocation.
Let’s put ourselves back in Germany for a minute. The Brown Shirts were a paramilitary group created around the time of Hitler’s “People’s Court”. They were given similar powers as Blackwater employees and are documented as being instrumental to his rise to complete power. Once Hitler became dictator, the Brown Shirts were dissolved and essentially became Hitler’s SS (A German word meaning Protective Echelon) in other words a major Nazi organization.
#4 Surveil Ordinary Citizens
How was Germany able to round up so many Jews and Gays? They had lists. I love my twitter, but if Barack wanted to be a dick, he knows that I am both gay and against several of his recent actions. Does this put me on a list? Does this make me less safe in a country that already treats me and my people as second class citizens?
Crazy you call me? There are in fact several “Watch Lists” in effect in America today. One recent example would be the CNN reporter Drew Griffin who was detained during a recent flight to find out that he was on a ‘terrorist’ watch list. How does a reporter get on a watch list? He did an expose on the TSA. I guess they weren’t a fan of his reporting style.
How do you get on the watch list? For me it’s writing this post.
#5 Infiltrate Citizens’ Groups
I’m not going to go into this one too much, just think of the random followers you gain on twitter. How many do you actually know nothing about? They could be, and I did say could be, trying to gather information about you. I’m not saying that all followers on twitter are trying to infiltrate your space, but at least give it a thought.
#6 Detain and Release Ordinary Citizens
Under the Patriot Act, any United States Citizen can be arrested and treated as a terrorist for ANY REASON. All it would take is a few public fall guys for the American citizens to realize.. oh, you must not be able to say that or do that anymore.
How many Jewish people did the Nazi’s have to strip rights from until it was widely accepted that being Jewish was against being German?
#7 Target Key Individuals
In April of 1933 Germany organized book burnings of writings in which the authors had spoken out against their regime.
Back in America, following the passing of the Patriot Act, the widely popular country trio The Dixie Chicks publicly spoke their disdain for then president George W. Bush. They simply said: “We wish Bush weren’t from Texas”.
Immediately their songs were pulled from air-play and as a result of their vocalization , they were forced to visibly apologize or lose their record deal. All over the country mass burnings of The Dixie Chicks albums were held.
Are the Dixie Chicks not big enough for you? Even Dan Rather of CBS News fame claims that he was let go over questioning George Bush’s military service record.
#8 Restrict The Press
Twitter is over Capacity.
Josh Wolf, a Freelance Journalist here in the United States, recorded video from a protest here in the US. He refused to turn over the video he shot from the protest and spent 8 months in jail. He says that it basically boils down to the Government trying to identify the names of citizens here at home who do not agree with their actions. Would you be on that list?
#9 Recast Criticism as Espionage and Dissent as Treason
Amy Goodman was arrested at the 2008 RNC for no reason. Watch the disturbing video show her arrest.
There were over 200 law abiding citizens that were playing their ‘free speech’ card that were arrested that day. All of them are now listed as terrorists on Government watch lists.
#10 Subvert the Rule Of Law
The disappearance of checks and balances makes it easier to declare martial law, especially if the judiciary branch continues to exercise authority over individuals but has no authority over the Executive branch.
Could this be the next Holocaust? A Gay Holocaust, right here in America?
