My Favorite Madonna Videos
This was originally going to be a B-side for the Keep It Together single. It's a good thing Warner Bros decided to release it as its own single. This is easily one of Madonna's most recognizable songs and the video is one of my favorites.
Justify My Love
This is the one that got Madonna banned from my house as a child. It also got her banned from MTV for the sexual tones. It was just too much at the time. Madonna ended up releasing it as a video single, on VHS... remember those?! Since that was the only place to see this video it became the biggest selling music video in history.
Like A Prayer
This song debuted in a Pepsi commercial during The Cosby Show. Once the video was released the following day the commercial was quickly pulled from the air. Needless to say, the controversy helped push the song all the way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It remains one of my favorites to this day.
Not the edited one that you find on Madonna's official YouTube channel, the original. The video was filmed prior to the Iraq war. Four days before the scheduled premiere she decided to pull the video stating: "Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video". The original is still relevant and my favorite Madonna video ever!
Not quite banned from MTV, however they would only show it after midnight and only aired it a few times. It's S&M theme is mild by today's standards. This is my favorite Madonna album and the lead single's video is still watched regularly in my house.
The song was not a hit at all. It peaked at #36 on the Hot 100. However the video has beautiful cinematography and the storyline follows that of the song. One of my all time favorites from the Erotica era.
After being ostracized from the backlash of American Life, Madonna did what she does best... reinvent herself. She was very successful! This is perhaps my favorite reinvention as the whole album, tour and subsequent videos stuck to the disco theme.
Girl Gone Wild
Though it's not one of my favorite Madonna songs, the video is the best one to come out of the post Confessions Madonna era. It's a throw back to everything we loved about the Erotica days.
